Sony plans to launch a new e-Reader in Japan and equip it with a service online bookstore to sell digital versions of newspapers, books, comics and magazines. The announcement was only a lapse of a day before Apple launched its iPad in Japan.
These services will be launched starting next July 1 and is operated by a new company founded Sony, along with three partners in Japan, each telecom operator KDDI, the newspaper Asahi Shimbun, and Toppan Printing. These services claimed will become the largest ebook distribution in Japan. The four companies will retain their respective shares sebesat 25 percent.
Digital book format will be designed to use the service open. Thus, the future not only e-reader devices made by Sony alone who can access it. E-book reader devices other will also become a media content distribution service.
